ESL Tunes

Music is a powerful tool in the ESL classroom. It can be used to build listening, reading, and writing skills; expand students’ vocabulary; or just liven up the mood. Through the song lyrics, students can learn about culture and colloquial phrases. There are multiple directions that an ESL instructor can take. I’ve compiled downloadable song worksheets and activities from various authors here to ease the lesson planning for instructors who teach adult English language learners. Enjoy!

Teacher Tip: iSLCollective.com

There's an abundance of ESL resource websites on the Internet and it's rather time-consuming to shuffle through all of it to find what you need. One of the most useful sites that I have found is the Internet Second Language Collective (www.iSLCollective.com). It's a collection of colorful teacher-made printables, projectables, and teacher tips. The activities vary by vocabulary, grammar, function, level, and student type. I found this site most helpful in finding song worksheets so I wouldn't have to create them from scatch. You must become a member to download any activity, but the best part about the website, is that it is FREE!
